Karen Glowacki, Executive Director

Sherin & Lodgen LLP

Years in field?  25.

What do you most enjoy about your job?  Because I work for a smaller firm (40 attorneys), I focus on all aspects of the business and find the diversity of my job and responsibilities very rewarding. I enjoy all the aspects of management and leadership in my firm and put a lot of effort into fostering a team culture.

What is your biggest challenge at work? Following up on what I most enjoy about my job, I would have to say that having such diverse responsibilities is also my biggest challenge. Running a law firm today means staying current in all aspects of the business in order to remain competitive, provide excellent client services and recruit the best talent. It is a challenge to stay current in all areas of firm administration which is why I have spent so many years participating in the ALA.

When you're not at work, you like to…? I love photography and I prefer spending time taking good photos rather than a lot of time editing them. So, on most weekends I find time to go off somewhere to practice my skills. If it’s too wintery outside, I am probably flipping through photography books and magazines, taking a class, or setting up a little macro studio on my dining room table.

Favorite T.V. Show? Justified. Really. Show after show, it consistently has excellent writing, complex characters and terrific acting. And, I am a huge Timothy

Oliphant fan and have been ever since Deadwood.

Last Book Read: Rules of Civility, by Amor Towles. This novel is set during 1938 in

New York City and follows three friends through one year of interesting and tragic adventures. It has great insight into New York society during that time period and is very well written. It was given to me as a Christmas gift and turned out to be a wonderful surprise.
