Embracing Generational Diversity
Event Co-Sponsored by ALHRM
(Association of Legal Human Resource Managers)

People are living longer, working longer and changing jobs more frequently than any other time in our history.  The workplace and the workforce is no longer what it was several decades ago. Looking across generations from Boomers, to Gen X, and to Millennials, one sees a mix of commonalities and differences. It is understanding and appreciating the differences that will determine the long-term success.  We need to examine what is important to each generation, what are their values and how were those beliefs and values formed.

What were the significant trends, experiences, and/or events that shaped this amorphous group called a generation?  Once the values held by an age group are understood, the next step is creating an environment consistent with and acceptable to their value systems.  It may mean communicating differently or offering rewards other than what might normally be seen as a reward.  It may mean structuring the day differently or simply eliminate our existing notions of what a day should be. It might mean forgoing some control or structure but still provide direction. It will definitely mean living with some frustrations, “Managing ain’t what it used to be”. It will mean accepting some new realities, such as no job is for life or that paying your dues is an expression that does not resonate across the ages.

Pre-registration is required. Please note lunch will be served. Guests from your firm or non-members are welcome for a $50 registration fee.
