December 2017

Boston Chapter ALA
President’s Letter

Dear Fellow Boston Chapter ALA Members and Business Partners:

I  want to wish everyone a very happy holiday season, and a very prosperous 2018.

Thank you to the Board of Directors, Committee Chairs and active volunteers for their tireless work on behalf of the Chapter. I want to thank Renee Russo and her team at McKenna Management, and finally a big thank you to our Business Partners. Together, we make the best Chapter in the Association.

We have a very exciting year coming up, and I encourage Members to renew before year end to take advantage of the $50 early bird discount.  Here are a few recent highlights:

  • As promised the Chapter website, alaboston.org, is now “mobile friendly,” so using it on your mobile device is very easy. You can register for programs on your phone, both through the website, and also through the Chapter’s social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn (@alaboston).
  • Members, Business Partners and their families turned out at Nevins Farm for the MSPCA in Methuen on December 2nd, and it was great working together to give back to the community in many different ways.

Here are some important upcoming events:

  • I hope you have already signed up for the  Boston Chapter ALA Holiday Luncheon being held on Friday, December 15th at the Langham Hotel. This is the first of our new program format which will bring together Members and Business Partners in lieu of seasonal socials. Already over 120 have registered for this event! Programs are now being posted on the calendar for 2018.

I am excited to announce that the Board of Directors has added the following individuals to the Boston Chapter ALA list of Lifetime Members. These individuals have added so much to the Chapter over the years and deserve our sincere gratitude.

Jonathan Bashein - Past President 1989-1990
Lawrence Stevens - Past President 1995-1996
Margaret “Peggy” Binder - Past President 1999-2000
Donald Kelliher - Past President 2002-2003

These individuals can enjoy all the benefits of the Boston Chapter at no cost.

It is also my pleasure to announce that the Board has created an In Memoriam section, which will  reside in the Chapter Membership Directory for individuals that have passed on, but will never be forgotten. Currently listed are:

Walter Turnbull - Past President 1988-1989
Carl Barba - Past President 1998-1999 and Past President of Cyber Chapter ALA
Elizabeth Ounanian - Past President 2001-2002
Joseph Migliore – President-Elect 2012
Jerome Bello - Long time, active ALA Member

Each one of these Members took great pride in our industry and in the Association, and helped build the Chapter we have today.

Finally, the Nominating Committee charged with recommending the 2018-2019 Board of Directors, headed up by our Immediate Past President, Kathy Crowley, has begun its process.  If you or someone you know may be interested in a position, please reach out to Kathy and let her know.  If you are asked to serve on the Board, I hope you will take it as a great honor and say “YES”!

Thank you, again, to all of our Chapter Members, Business Partners, Board and Committees Members for continuing to make my presidency special. 2018 is promising to be the best year ever.

Sincerely and with great pride,

Christopher O’Sullivan, CLM
