Volunteers, The Backbone of the Boston Chapter
Volunteer, Webster's Dictionary defines it as "a person who voluntarily undertakes a service or duty". Our chapter is blessed with an abundance of great volunteers. It is what gives our chapter the "backbone" to accomplish all the goals that we have set. Over the past two years as President, and 4 years on the Board of Directors of the Boston Chapter, I have had the privilege of volunteering with numerous members to bring our chapter to where we are today. I have also have made life long friends during this tenure.
Just over this past year our volunteers ensured fantastic educational programs and one day educational program, raised a record amount of money and time from our chapter/members/sponsors/friends for our charities, continued improving the website and published our first newsletter. Our volunteers also continued to grow and improve membership, continuing to run one of the most successful sponsorship programs in the entire ALA.
So you ask, “What can I do?” First, please vote. The Nominating Committee has mailed the slate for the 2006-2007 proposed Board to all members. Secondly, if you get a call after the election to serve on a committee please take this as a great honor and give it serious consideration. If you do not want to wait for a call and want to serve on a committee, please pick up the phone or send an email to the nominated individual requesting that you would like to serve. There is still a lot to accomplish and we need your help.
I thank all the current board members of the 2005-2006 year for your service, Paul Masuret for accepting the nomination for President, and all the nominees who have accepted to be on the ballot for the 2006-2007 board of directors. Finally a large thank you to all the volunteers who served on various committees during last year.
Sincerely,
Christopher O’Sullivan
President-Boston Chapter
