Leading a Change in the D&I Conversation within Law Firms: What if we start with Inclusion?
Tricia Hennessy will lead us in a discussion around the idea of shifting the conversation we have been having within the legal profession. For years now, we have been talking about diversity – how various aspects of identity are represented, or not, within our firms. What if we decided to start the conversation with questions like:
- Are we doing what we can to move our firm towards inclusion - a work environment where everyone thrives, can be themselves and do their best work?
- Am I looking for opportunities within my firm to create equity - an intentional effort to address imbalances and ensure that all people have access to opportunities?
- Am I modeling the traits of an inclusive leader?
From that base, we will discuss strategies to move forward to bring about the change we have been talking about for so long and respond to audience questions on the topic.
About the Speaker
Tricia Hennessey is the Director of Inclusion & Diversity at Burns & Levinson. She works with other leaders across the firm to develop and drive I&D initiatives. Tricia is passionate about embedding I&D into the culture and systems of the firm in order to foster a more inclusive working environment which supports the firm’s overall effort to deliver exceptional legal services.
Tricia’s varied professional experience includes practicing law in a private firm, as well as in nonprofit and for profit corporate settings; serving as a member of a law firm management team; coaching attorneys and law students in the areas of career development and change; consulting on diversity and inclusion strategic planning and implementation; facilitating skills building workshops including in the area of mitigating bias; and speaking at law schools and bar associations on various legal career topics.
