Introduction

Founded in 1974, the Boston Chapter has approximately 200 Members comprised of Administrators and Legal Managers from firms of all sizes in the private, corporate and government sectors.  The Boston Chapter is committed to providing Chapter Members with unique educational and networking opportunities to help them enhance their skills both personally and professionally.  Our Chapter's success is driven by an active and vibrant membership. We encourage members to take advantage of our many educational and networking opportunities and to join a committee to realize the full benefits of the ALA.

Membership includes a variety of educational and networking opportunities:

Quarterly Events: Held at various locations in and around the Financial District, beginning with half an hour of networking, followed by catered lunch, a brief discussion of any Chapter business, then a featured speaker.  Held quarterly, typically from 12 to 2.  Free to Members, nominal guest fee.

Educational Webinars: Offered by ALA International, featuring experts on the latest best practices and trends in the legal profession. You may purchase these webinars to watch in your office, or attend a Chapter viewing for free.  Viewings offered in Boston and Worcester.  Free to Members and guests.

Small Firm Member Roundtables: A great opportunity for attendees to pose questions to fellow Chapter Members regarding topics of interest. Lunch is provided. Typically held four times per year from 12 to 1.  Free, Members only.

Monthly Programs: An educational offering of a topic-specific speaker typically followed by a roundtable discussion on that same topic. Held monthly, typically from 12 to 2.  Free to Members, nominal guest fee.

Community Outreach: The Boston Chapter is committed to making a difference in our community by fundraising and volunteering time at local charities.  Past events have included the MSPCA, the Greater Boston Food Bank and the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, as well as collecting holiday gifts for families in need through several community organizations.  Click here to learn more about this program.  Free to Members and Business Partners, guests welcome.

Member-Only Message Boards: The Message Boards are a forum on the Boston Chapter website which allow Members to share information and best practices with one another. They provide a great opportunity to pose questions that crop up on a daily basis to see how other firms have addressed an issue, or if others have recommendations on vendors, etc.  Click here to review the Antitrust Guidelines.  Free, Members only.

Conference Scholarships: Whenever possible, the Boston Chapter is happy to award a limited number of conference awards to the Annual, Business of Law, and subject matter conferences offered around the country by ALA International in an effort to make these educational events available to Chapter Members who have been active and have demonstrated commitment to the Boston Chapter and the Association.  Free, Members only.

Committees: Volunteering to serve on one of the Chapter’s committees – Community Relations and Chapter Events, Business Partner Relations, Communication & Visibility, Diversity & Inclusion, Member Relations, and Chapter Education –provides a wonderful opportunity to work closely with other Chapter Members, expand your network and help shape the future of the Chapter.  Priceless opportunity open to Members only.

New Member Mentors: New Chapter Members are paired with veteran Boston Chapter Members who will serve as their Mentor to assist them in becoming more familiar with other members and the benefits and resources that the organization has to offer.  Free, Members only.

Networking: Member/Business Partner Events provide wonderful opportunities for Chapter Members to mingle with one another and with our Business Partner sponsors.  Meet new Business Partners and reconnect with some you may already work with.  Free, Members and Business Partners.

Most Chapter Members agree that the most valuable benefit your membership provides is the opportunity for you to meet other legal administrators who encounter the same types of issues you see every day, and will serve as an invaluable resource to you and your Firm (and may also become your good friends!).  Don’t hesitate to reach out to a Boston Chapter Board Member if you have any questions.  That’s what we’re here for!
