Paula ClasbyOffice Manager

Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP

Years in field: I have 6 ½ years’ experience working in legal administration. Prior to working in law firms, I have many years of experience working in human resources in the financial services industry. After spending 5 years at a large law firm, I found my way to Nelson Mullins, which has 488 attorneys firm wide, and 60 attorneys in Boston. Nelson Mullins is a general practice firm and in Boston we operate in the areas of: General Litigation, Corporate, IP, and Government Relations.

What do you most enjoy about your job? In my role as Office Manager, it is never

The same day twice. I love the challenges that each day presents and the variety of responsibilities, i.e., administration leadership, human resources, marketing, office and client events, facility planning, etc. It is also wonderful to work so closely with the attorneys in my office and to hear about their work. It is an exciting and stimulating environment. We have a dynamic culture at Nelson Mullins where attorneys and staff work closely together toward the common goal. We are collaborative and respectful of everyone’s contribution to the firm, and our Managing Partner expresses his appreciation often.

What is your biggest challenge at work?  I enjoy a good challenge! Every day is a new challenge in my role as Office Manager. For example, I manage the Summer Interns in my office, and it is a challenge to keep them engaged and busy with substantive work. This involves coordinating various projects for them with attorneys and administrative staff. It is fun having interns in the office and they create a fresh perspective on how the next generation thinks about work.

When you're not at work, you like to...?  I like to spend time with my family and friends. I am very good at keeping in touch with people and organizing gatherings. Networking is a good skill to have in both my personal life and professional life.

Favorite T.V. Show? I love America’s Got Talent. The stories and performances are great, and the judges have good chemistry and are hysterical. On a recent trip to Las Vegas, I saw the Terry Fator Show, and it was one of the best shows I have seen. Terry Fator is a singer, comedian, ventriloquist and celebrity impressionist who burst onto the national scene after winning “America’s Got Talent” in 2007.

Last Book Read:  Success Is a Choice, Rick Pitino.  Mr. Pitino is ready to let everyone see what his players and those in his seminars have been exposed to for years: the warmth, humor, and road-tested motivational techniques that will help them to develop mental toughness, enhance their self-esteem, and learn how they can exceed their own potential. No matter how you spend your time (in business, teams, classrooms, or just everyday living) Success Is a Choice will be your own personal coach, urging you on to achieve peak performance.
