Boston Chapter ALA
President’s Letter

Dear Fellow ALA Boston Chapter Members:

I am writing this on the first day of summer, wishing everyone a summer to remember this year! I thought it would be a good time to update the Chapter on all the exciting initiatives that keep our Chapter a leading Chapter within the ALA.

First, the Board of Directors, Committees and McKenna Management (with Renee Russo as Executive Director) have been working hard to not only make this an exceptional year, which I believe it is shaping up to be, but to also ensure that 2018 is a year of fulfilling and exciting changes.

Since April, you have seen outstanding programs put on by Debbie Foster (60 Legal Tips, Gadgets and Websites in 60 Minutes) and the second-to-none speaker Judy Hissong, CLM, teaching us to listen better with her program “Do You Hear What I Hear?”  Both programs carried some of the highest ratings we have seen.  Along with a fantastic Managing Partner Reception featuring three-time Super Bowl Champion Kevin Faulk sharing some life lessons he learned both on and off the field.  I hope you were able to make these presentations.

The Chapter has also been working hard on our Diversity and Inclusion initiative.  Kim McMahon and her committee continue to bring this topic to light and bring awareness to various issues through programs and announcements.  The Chapter recognizes the importance of diversity and inclusion and will continue to promote this initiative.

We just hosted our well-attended annual Member/Business Partner Golf Outing and Social.  Thank you to all who attended to make this event special.  At the golf social we heard from Dashley, the youth of the year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Medford and Somerville, where he told us about how the Boston Chapter has helped him and others in the program we are funding for young adults ages 14-17.  Click here for BGC Progress Report .  The Board, together with Ginni Klier and the COEC want to thank you for your continued generosity to help us reach our goal of $10,000!  The COEC also recently had a volunteer event in honor of the MSPCA and their fundraising road race called ‘The Fast and Furriest’.  Thank you to all who attended!

So, what do we have lined up for the remainder of the year?  Outstanding programs and networking opportunities are on the menu.

  • First the summer workshop.  Back by popular demand, Jennifer Alfonso will present her expanded program “What Do I Say? Handling Difficult Conversations at Work and Leveraging Your Diplomacy Skills”.  This program is being held on July 26, 2017. Register Here
  • Next is the 2017 Boston One Day Leadership Conference &  Business Partner Expo on September 13, 2017.  Four of the best keynote speakers will be educating us throughout the day.  I hope you can make it!  Members register here. Business Partners register here.
  • And one last teaser:  we are planning a very special holiday program on Friday, December 15, 2017.  We have well-known keynote speaker Judson Laipply coming to educate and entertain us.  You might know him from his video Evolution of Dance

Along with our monthly newsletter “The Boston Chapter Chatter”, the newly launched ALA Boston Buzz weekly update, monthly educational luncheons in October and November, our outstanding roundtables, our Certified Legal Managers (CLM study group) and other networking opportunities like the “Coffee Connection”, I hope you are finding there is something for everyone!  Information on all of these programs can be found on our website.  Also look out for the new online directory that will be updated on July 1, 2017.

…And if you think this year is great, wait until you see what we have planned for next year!

Of course, all of the above is due in large part to our Business Partners!  Without your support, we would not be able to do many of the initiatives that make our Chapter so special.

Finally, I hope each member takes the time to get involved.  Please serve on a committee, run a committee, or join the Board of Directors.  There are many benefits to involvement.  If you are a new member or a member who is now looking to get involved (or re-involved), I and the Board look forward to hearing from you and meeting each one of you at one our many educational and networking opportunities.

Thank you again for allowing me to serve as your 2017-2018 Chapter President.
